25 September 2009 - Hong Kong proved its enduring appeal as a formidable financial hub, garnering Best Business City in the World and Best Business City in Northeast Asia at the 18th Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards.
Singapore copped Best Business City in Southeast Asia and Bangkok won Best Leisure Destination in Asia-Pacific.
Handed out yearly during luncheon ceremonies at the Conrad Hong Kong, the awards represent praise and acclaim by readers of the 27-year-old publication and are highly coveted by travel and hospitality providers. The Readers’ Poll, conducted and analysed by Synovate, yields the much awaited results.
Opening on the auspicious date of August 8, 2008 certainly proved lucky for the W Hong Kong, this year’s Best New Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific whose combination of panache and can-do attitude wowed corporates sufficiently, while Hotel LKF by Rhombus Hong Kong, one of the city's ever increasing crop of stylish addresses, impressed enough guests to land the prize of Best Boutique Hotel in Asia-Pacific.
There were no surprises in the categories of Best Business Hotel Brand in the World (Grand Hyatt) and Best Business Brand in Asia-Pacific (Shangri-La) with Hyatt International and Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts reprising wins of successive years. Both chains also dominated the Best Business Hotels in various cities across the region.
Another perennial top placer, Singapore did not disappoint, continuing to validate its reputation for the highest standards of quality when it comes to its airline, Singapore Airlines, voted Best Airline, Best Asia-Pacific Airline, Best First Class, Best Business Class and Best Economy Class; its airport, Singapore Changi Airport, voted Best Airport in the World with the Best Duty-Free in the World; and its lodging providers, Shangri-La, voted Best Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific and Best Business Hotel in Singapore and Ascott, voted Best Serviced Residence Brand in Asia-Pacific complemented by Ascott Sathorn Bangkok, voted Best Serviced Residence in Asia-Pacific for the second year running.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
Between April and June of this year, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific sent out poll forms to its subscribers, all frequent travellers, not just within the region but throughout the globe. The response rate was 12% and the results were compiled by market research company, Synovate. The results will appear in the October issue of the magazine.
