10 September 2010 – The exclusive circle of Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Travel Award winners welcomed 13 new members during the annual luncheon ceremonies at Conrad Hotel Hong Kong. The yearly awards, which are now given out for 55 categories, reflect the highest accolade Business Traveller readers bestow on travel and hospitality providers who have made their journeys seamless and productive. The Readers’ Poll, conducted and interpreted by Synovate, forms the ultimate basis for the results. This is the 19th year for the awards to be staged.

InterContinental garnered the top hotel title as Best Business Hotel Brand in the World for the first time, besides keeping the title of Best Business Hotel Brand in Europe for the second year running. Taking their place in the limelight as well were The Upper House Hong Kong as Best Boutique Hotel in Asia-Pacific, Hilton as Best Business Hotel in Hanoi, Hilton for Best Business Hotel in Osaka, Lotte for Best Business Hotel in Seoul, Pudong Shangri-La for Best Business Hotel in Shanghai and Grand Hyatt for Best Business Hotel in Taipei.

JW Marriott Phuket tied with perennial top placer Banyan Tree Phuket for Best Resort Hotel in Asia-Pacific, while Ascott Singapore bested a sister property to become Best Serviced Residence in Asia-Pacific.

On the airline front, Singapore Airlines, while no stranger to winning – it expectedly bagged Best Airline in First, Business and Economy class and Best Airline in the World and Asia-Pacific as in previous years – added to its trophy haul for Best Airline Lounge in Asia-Pacific, while Qatar Airways, which has been making headlines these past months for its future state-of-the-art fleet purchases, was named Best Middle East Airline.

In the three new categories created for the 2010 event, Virgin Atlantic was acknowledged for having the Best Premium Economy Class, The Venetian Macao for being Best Business Hotel in Macau and Singapore’s Chiangi Airport for Best Airport in Asia-Pacific in addition to its perennial title as Best Airport in the World.

And after a couple of challenging years, Bali has made a comeback, and Business Traveller readers have rewarded it as Best Leisure Destination in Asia-Pacific.

Service consistency is the feature most often cited for generating loyalty and repeat business, and hence familiar names kept the top slots among them Shangri-La (Best Business Hotel Brand in Asia-Pacific, Best Business Hotel in the World and Asia-Pacific), Holiday Inn (Best Mid-market Hotel Brand in the World and Best Mid-market Hotel Brand in Asia-Pacific), Ascott (Best Serviced Residence Brand in Asia-Pacific and Best Serviced Residence in Asia Pacific), Singapore Changi Airport (Best Airport in the World and Best Duty Free in the World) and W Hong Kong (Best New Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific).

Enduring epitomes of financial élan and efficiency, Hongkong and Singapore remained unchallenged, with Hongkong landing Best Business City in the World and Best Business City in Northeast Asia, and Singapore retaining the Best Business City in Southeast Asia crown.

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Between April and June of this year, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific sent out poll forms to its subscribers, who are some of the region’s most frequent travellers. The response rate was 14.3 percent, and the results were compiled by market research leader Synovate. The results will appear in the October 2010 issue of the magazine.

Business Traveller leads the portfolio of titles belonging to international publishing house, Panacea Publishing, with headquarter in London. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific is one of ten titles around the world, including Business Traveller China.

Since its first issue in 1982, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has represented a valuable resource for frequent travellers, as well as serving as a platform for their concerns.
