Air India will launch daily direct flights to Toronto from Delhi on October 31, 2010. A Boeing B777-300ER aircraft will be used for the 14-hour journey.
The airline has also recently resumed flying from Delhi to Seoul, via Hongkong, likewise utilising a B777-300ER. This is a four times weekly service.
Air India's financial troubles of last year are slowly easing with the help of the Indian government. Officials have announced the injection of US$260 million in equity funds over the next few months, in addition to the US$173.68 million it earlier sunk into the ailing carrier.
Civil Aviation minister, Praful Patel, remarked: “At the moment, the decision is not to disinvest. The government’s decision is to have a national carrier. and it shall continue to be so.”
