Dragonair responds to healthy demand for regional destinations

Dragonair intends to beef up services to Wuhan and Kaoshiung in July and take delivery of two new Airbus A320s in August to handle increased frequencies due to buoyant demand for regional destinations. It links Hongkong with 29 destinations in Asia-Pacific, including 17 on mainland China, using a fleet of 28 aircraft.

The Hongkong-Wuhan service will go daily from the present four flights a week and Hongkong-Kaoshiung will become 32 flights a week up from 28 flights.

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, which marks its 25th anniversary this year, has not considered installing a Premium Economy product on the future additions to its fleet or any existing aircraft. Chief executive James Tong said: “We haven’t seen any demand and Premium Economy is really meant for long-haul flights. Our flights are generally short- to medium-haul.”

Dragonair’s current furthest destination is to Bangalore with a flight time of five and half to six hours.

The airline continues to mark its anniversary with activities such as the refreshment of its A330 interiors for completion by year-end (see news) and new inflight menus in partnership with the JW Marriott Hong Kong and one-star Michelin restaurant Dynasty Restaurant of Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong, which will be served until mid-April 2011.

Other customer-centric perks include an enhanced duty-free sales listing, launch of a home delivery service and monthly lucky draws. More promotions will be announced in July.
