Mandala Airlines to take to the skies again

Indonesia-based Mandala Airlines is due to restart operations this year, after a year long hiatus, thanks to investment from Tiger Airways.

Mandala Airlines ceased operations in January last year due to debt problems. Now, Tiger Airways has stepped in, through its 33 percent share holding, and will help the carrier reorganise its finances and restart operations.

Consequentially, the airline’s Air Operators Certificate has been reactivated by the Indonesian Director General of Air Communications, with flights scheduled to resume from April 2012 onwards.

The restructured carrier will follow Tiger Airways’ low-cost business model, offering “low fare travel to international and domestic Indonesian destinations within a five-hour flying radius,” stated an announcement from Tiger Airways. The carrier’s confirmed network and aircraft fleet have yet to be announced.
