Qatar Airways is boosting operations in Asia-Pacific, increasing frequencies to two destinations and upgrading aircraft on the flights servicing three others.

The Doha-Kuala Lumpur service increases from seven to 11 flights weekly, while Bali via Singapore goes daily up from four flights weekly. A new Boeing 777-300ER will be deployed to service the Lion City, Bali and selected Kuala Lumpur routes. The carrier’s B777s feature 42 horizontal flat-bed seats in Business Class and 293 seats in Economy Class.

Meanwhile, the airline has designated Jakarta as a non-stop direct flight, delinking it from Singapore and intends to introduce a non-stop direct flight to Seoul.

This year looks to be one QF’s busiest, having kicked off its expansion exercise just after New Year with a non-stop Doha-Bengaluru service on February 22 (see news), followed by yesterday’s announcements of flights to Copenhagen on March 30, Ankara on April 5, Tokyo (via Osaka) on April 26 and Barcelona on June 7.

Last May, Sydney was confirmed to start up “in 10 months”, but so far, there has been no movement in that direction. Business Traveller has learned the plan has reportedly been pushed back to later this year.
