SIA to invest S$95 million to refit Boeing 777-200ERs

Singapore Airlines is planning to invest some S$95 million (US$78 million) to refit ten Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with new long-haul cabin products, providing greater consistency across its long-haul fleet.
Business class is to feature leather seats that recline up to 125 degrees and unfold into 76-inch full-flat beds, and the forward-facing, four-abreast 1-2-1 configuration, which is also found on the airline's A340-500s, A380s and B777-300ERs, offers all passengers direct access to the aisle.
The in-flight entertainment screens will be enlarged, to 15.4 inches in the business class cabin and 9 inches in economy.
The first of these B777-200ERs will operate between Singapore and Amsterdam from January 13 next year, with Mumbai to follow from March 31.
Other cities to be served by the refitted aircraft are Auckland, Cape Town, Christchurch, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Rome and Sydney.
Earlier this year SIA announced plans to launch new premium seating on its B777-300ER aircraft next year (see online news August 14).
The carrier has also signed an agreement with Panasonic Avionics to fit its forthcoming B777-300ER, A330 and A350 aircraft with the latest IFEC (inflight entertainment and communication) systems (see online news September 13).

Thanks for your comment SteveJohnsonInOz - we've added in some background information and links regarding other seating investment projects which have been announced recently by SIA.
We do always endeavour to do a lot more than just "copy and paste" press releases, but occasionally in this world of online immediacy there is a compulsion to get the story up on the site, and then add to it with further details when we get a chance.

The SQ 777-200ER is not before time. I ws amazed to have such an old and unsatisfactory business class product when I flew SQ Singapore-Auckland in August. I have told SQ I will not fly with them again until I can be sure of a flat bed on such a long haul sector - 10 hours. I am sure they have had other similally dissatisfied (and surprised) business class customers.

Wonder when they will refit/replace the old 777-200s on the Singapore-Denpasar sector. The Biz-class there is a DISGRACE, with really old 2-3-2 seating and trays that wont open completely if you're a "passenger of size"!
