Where is it? This boutique five-star, set on 46 acres of lush beachfront gardens, was recently named runner-up in the “Favourite Leisure Hotel in India” category in the Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2010 Indian Special. The resort hotel, located in the most idyllic area of South Goa in India, is a 15-minute drive from Goa's Dabolim Airport, while the Margao railway station and capital Panjim are around 20 and 40 minutes away respectively. Airport taxis to the hotel are available at a starting rate of Rs350.

What’s it like? Conceptualised as an Indo-Portuguese village, full of fragrant plant-filled courtyards and gardens linked by Venetian-style canals, bridges and cobbled streets, although the extensive spa gives a nod to modernity.

Room Facilities Most rooms offer striking views overlooking a sparkling lagoon. A manicured lawn welcomes you to a 41 sqm room reflecting Goa's rich cultural heritage, including contemporary artwork, king-size bed and open-plan marble bath with sunken tub and outdoor enclosed rain shower, complete with balcony and ‘secret garden’ with a large veranda. The hotel offers 24-hour room service and in-room safe, TV, payable internet, baby-sitting services and multi-lingual staff.  Welcome snacks and rose petals are delivered daily.

Business and leisure facilities No formal business centre, but printing, copying and faxing facilities are available through reception at a cost. The 36,0000sq ft Serano Spa should sooth any aches or pains, offering holistic treatments and therapies inspired by Ayurvedic and Yogic traditions.
A Wellness Advisor offers a half-hour complimentary consultation on your body type and recommends a specific treatment to either purify and detoxify or simply relax. Morning, afternoon and evening complimentary yoga sessions are available, along with a large pool with water slides, sandy beach, water sports, archery, beach volleyball and lawn tennis facilities. A plethora of heritage sites are nearby.

Restaurants & Bars Choose from two bars and four restaurants which offer an array of Goan, North India, Italian, seafood and gourmet dishes. All food is freshly prepared in open kitchens, while the individual and unique design of each restaurant creates a welcoming atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend the Goan prawn curry at the Casa Sarita restaurant.

Prices The low-season prices range from Rs7,000 per night to Rs13,000 per night and the high-season starts from Rs13,000 per night and can go as high as Rs30,000.

Verdict Very comfortable, top-notch food and service, and the large spa and lush location tick the well-being boxes.
